Kingdom Mentality – Heart of Servant

Mark 10:35-44

Passage Mark 10:35-45 (bible.com):

The Request of James and John

35(A) And James and John,(B) the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us(C) whatever we ask of you." 36And he said to them, (D)"What do you want me to do for you?" 37And they said to him, "Grant us(E) to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left,(F) in your glory." 38Jesus said to them, (G) "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able(H) to drink the cup that I drink, or(I) to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" 39And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, (J) "The cup that I drink(K) you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized,(L) you will be baptized, 40but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant,(M) but it is for those for whom it has been(N) prepared." 41And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42(O) And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles(P) lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43But(Q) it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[a] 44and whoever would be first among you must be(R) slave[b] of all. 45For even the Son of Man came not to be served but(S) to serve, and(T) to give his life as a ransom for(U) many."

God is calling us these days to be His servants.

God's calling in our lives as:
1. Son
2. Servant
3. Friend
4. Bride

It is not wrong to be ambitious. We should have big vision. If we want to be big according to the Kingdom of God is to have a heart of a servant.

"The cost of true greatnets is humble, selfless, sacrificial services. The Christian who desires to be great and first in the kingdom is the one who is willing to serve in the hard place, the uncomfortable place, the lonely place, the demanding place, the place where he is not appreciated and may even be persecuted. Knowing that time is short and eternity is long. He is willing to spend and be spent. He is willing to work for excellence without becoming proud, to withstand criticism without becoming bitter, to be misjudged without becoming defensive, and to withstand suffering without succumbing to self-pity" – John MacArthur

A servant is…
  1. Someone who dedicated himself/herself to someone else (Phil 2:19-21)
  2. Someone who is not demanding (Mat 5:13)
  3. Someone who is not free (1 Cor 9:19; 2 Tim 2:10)
  4. Someone who is doesn't think reputation is something to hold on to (Phil 2:6-8)
  5. Someone who is not arrogant
  6. Someone who does more than what he was told to do (Luk 17:7-10; Col 3:23-24)
  7. Someone who always be in God's presence (Isa 57:15)
"Start doing what is neccesary; then do what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." – Francis Assisi
